Max Currie (they/them) is an actor, singer & musician based in Brooklyn, NY

All I ever wanted to do as a kid was play pretend. My earliest memories are of fantasy worlds and vivid dreams. Music made my imagination come alive. I’d sing along to anything and everything my mom would play in the car, from R.E.M. to Lerner & Loewe to Carole King. Watching The Wizard of Oz was my religion. I knew every pitch, rhythm and lyric of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by heart. From a young age I’d discovered the wonder of storytelling through song and knew it would be a part of my future.

Originally from Andover, MA, I started singing in school choir at 7 and picked up the electric bass at 10. In middle school, I began studying classical voice and musical theatre at the New England Conservatory of Boston through their preparatory program. I later graduated from Brooks School in 2017 as the recipient of the Knowlton Drama Prize and went on to further my studies at Emerson College where I graduated (virtually!) in May of 2021 with my Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre.

Now located in Brooklyn, NY, I seek performance opportunities in theatre and music that embrace the complexity of gender and spark questions about community, healing and justice. In addition to new works, I’m interested in reinvestigating classic characters through my perspective as a nonbinary person. I’m a musical theatre geek through and through but I also have a deep love for folk, soul and classic rock music. Some of my biggest influences are Joni Mitchell, Stephen Sondheim, Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney and Judy Garland.

When I’m not performing, I spend my time teaching voice lessons, walking dogs & bingeing Real Housewives of Beverly Hills…
